WONDER WOMAN: 12" MEGO DOLL #4 FLY-AWAY ACTION - 1978
released by Mego Corp., item #73500/1
This is the fourth-issue 12.5" doll version of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. The body was changed to a dark tan/orange tone, as Mego was using unused Cher bodies. The head coloration was altered to match the body, but the rooted hair and eyelashes were kept. The hair was kept in place by a thin clear cellophane band.
The figure wore the same outfit as the second issue: a yellow tiara with red star; two small silver bracelets; a one-piece bathing suit with red bodice (and shoulder straps), gold eagle/belt combination, and blue panties with white stars; and a pair of red boots with pointed tops and heels.
The 15.5" stretchable gold cord "lasso" which was knotted together 2.25" from the ends was looped around the neck and dangled down the front of the figure.
The first clear plastic accessory bag loose in the package contained the eqipment for "Fly Away Action" as promised on a sticker on the box front. This included a group of black plastic pieces that formed a carriage for the doll; a string to help simulate flight, and a set of printed instructions on a ??x?? white paper sheet.
The second clear plastic accessory bag loose in the package included a blue cloth robe that tied in the front, and a white plastic doll stand with two ankle-gripping columns. A second outfit/dress and a pair of open-toed high-heel shoes were included, but there are three types known (see below).
VARIATION ALERT: Some dolls were packed with a salmon-colored halter dress with flared bottom that snapped behind the neck (an accessory reused from Mego's Cher doll line). Others were packed with a white halter jumpsuit that snapped behind the neck (an accessory reused from Mego's Farrah Fawcett Major's doll line). A third variation is a black glittery dress (an accessory reused from Mego's Cher doll line). The open-toed high-heel shoes came in three variant colors: white, salmon, or black.
The figure is stamped on the upper part of the butt: © Mego Corp. 1975. Made in Hong Kong. The back of the head is stamped © DC Comics Inc. 1976. The box notes © 1976 DC Comics Inc.
Package measurements are 14" tall by 12" wide, with a 6" wide box to contain the figure and outfit. The box opens at top and bottom. The package flap included three comic-style pictures of Wonder Woman (by Dick Giordano), but again, no photo of Lynda Carter. The text reference to Lynda Carter has also been removed.
The package back features artwork depicting Paradise Island, and offers buyers the chance to "Surround Wonder Woman with these fully poseable friends and foes," with text descriptions of Major Steve Trevor, Queen Hippolyte, and Nubia.
